Cycling
August: Training rides are back! The Velocity team has partnered up with two of our loyal riders to help lead a training ride in August and September. On Sunday, August 28, Roderick "Priest" Priestly, Co-Owner of Studio in the Heights, will lead a 36 mile ride loop that begins and ends in Upper Manhattan. Five-time Velocity rider Joseph Ragusa will lead a ride on Sunday, September 11. Joe's 15 mile ride is perfect for riders of all levels as you cruise along the Bronx River Parkway. July: Is your bike on the fritz? Do you know someone who wants to participate but doesn’t have a bike? Well, we have great news for you! Velocity has teamed up with Unlimited Biking to be our official rental partner for the 2022 Velocity Ride. Unlimited Biking will provide you with a bike, helmet, easy options for pick up and drop off, and service so your rental is just right! Click the link below for full details.
June: Training for a cycling event is no easy feat! Whether you're an experienced, intermediate, or novice cyclist the Velocity team has a training plan that will help you prepare for this year's ride. Check out our two 8-Week training plans for our 25 and 62.5 mile options!

May: Safety first! It's been a cold few months and maybe you haven't been cycling as much as you usually would. To help ensure all Velocity Riders' safety while training and on the big day on October 2, we hope you'll brush up on some excellent cycling safety tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Fitness
August: Fitness isn't just about how far you can ride, how quickly you can run, or how many push-ups you can do. A key aspect of fitness is fueling your body with the right nutrition and diet. Check out this article from retired professional cyclist, Chris Carmichael that highlights cycling nutrition tips for rides of any length. Find out whether you've been making the right choices!
July: Warm up and cool down exercises are pivotal to proper maintenance of your body when it comes to working out. These two videos from Chain Reaction Cycling, show you everything you need to know about how to properly warm up and cool down.
June: With summer just around the corner, it's even more important than ever to stay hydrated while you're training for Velocity! Click below to learn about the warning signs of dehydration and preventative steps you can take.

June: Calling all cyclists, runners, walkers, and more! The Velocity Ride Team is inviting you to come out on Sunday, June 5 and Sunday, June 26 from 10am-2pm EDT for Bicycle Sundays presented by Westchester County Parks. Enjoy a traffic-free 13.1-mile loop of the Bronx River Parkway. Free admission and parking! Be sure to stop by our table and say hello to your Velocity Ride Team! Full details below.
May: It's time to start your training! This month we're all about one of our favorite places in New York City; Central Park! We've got a 25-mile cycling route from Velocity Rider, Greg Hruby and a 6-mile running/walking loop for our Velocity Your Way participants! Impact
August: Battling cancer is a challenge in itself. However, that challenge was made even more difficult when COVID-19 took the world by storm. This month, we take a look at an inspiring story about how Velocity Riders and Columbia doctors, Dr. Dawn Hershman and Dr. Roshni Rao helped their patient Suzanne navigate this difficult time in the midst of a pandemic. Overcoming Cancer During COVID-19
July: This month we are highlighting 3-time Velocity Rider, Nathan Rosin. Shortly before his 23rd birthday, Nathan was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Thanks to the incredible care he received from Dr. Emerson Lim, Dr. James McKiernan, and the rest of the CUIMC staff, Nathan is thriving and is back this year for his 4th Velocity Ride! June: Columbia’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) is dedicated to providing care, support, and hope to everyone touched by cancer. This life-saving care has allowed countless survivors a second chance to lead an incredibly impactful life in their communities and beyond. Survivors like Patti Murillo-Casa for one, has used her own journey to become an advocate for cancer patients. Click below to read Patti's inspiring story.
May: This year we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center’s (HICCC) designation by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Since 1972, the HICCC has been supported by the NCI as a pioneer in cancer research and patient care. As a Velocity supporter, you're continuing to bolster the HICCC's standing as a top cancer center in the world. Learn all about Columbia Cancer at 50 below!
