Please support me as I join Velocity: Columbia’s Ride to End Cancer.
Five years ago, in May 2013, I was diagnosed with stage III invasive ductal carcinoma. In the ensuing months I had 8 rounds of chemotherapy, five weeks of radiation, 8 reconstructive surgeries, 4 hospital admissions and one year of biologic infusions. Every day I am grateful to the researchers who developed the treatments that I received and the brave women who participated in clinical trials for all of the treatment agents.
In 2013 I could not have imagined that five years later I would be healthy, strong and riding 62.5 miles to raise money for cancer research and integrative services at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This year the ride is especially important to me because I have been working with a Velocity teammate/classmate to develop CancerFIT at CUIMC, an exercise class for cancer patients that is intended to counter the effects of cancer treatment and surgery. Money raised through Velocity will support programs like CancerFIT at CUIMC. Please join me in marking my five year anniversary by supporting me as I ride in Velocity: Columbia's Ride to End Cancer.
